Over the past couple of weeks I've been considering starting a pony-based comic strip based on an idea that I had when designing original pony characters for possible use in ~marshan3q
's then-planned fan movie based on the Dash Academy strip by *SorcerusHorserus
Unfortunately that particular project fell through, but these characters were intended to be pony representations of the members of my band for the Dance section of the movie. Thankfully ~marshan3q
now has a new project named Regal, which I will also hopefully be helping out with. But the idea is there now, prodding at me every time I see a pony image.
It's set in a world which is a sort of hybrid between the first and fourth generations, using mainly G1 and OC ponies, and if nothing else it will help me to practice pony-drawing for the new movie. I did consider a Harry Potter themed strip at one point, but I still rather suck at drawing people. Since it won't be set in Equestria, I probably won't be using any of the G4 ponies. I'll probably just be borrowing the style and a few of the concepts. I haven't decided yet whether the Elements of Harmony are going to be involved or not, or whether it will be set before or after G4 or in an entirely different continuity. But when and wherever it ends up being set, I quite like the idea of including OCs created by other fans. *SorcerusHorserus
has included some in the past as background characters, so full credit there for the OC-including idea itself. But personally I'm toying with the idea of allowing people to audition in a way for main character slots.
I do have a rough storyline sketched out, along with a handful of potential main characters, two or three of which I'm considering as Harmony bearers should the Elements be used. But of course there are six Elements, and who says anyway that there only have to be six main characters? It always seemed a tiny bit too convenient to me for there to be six friends and six Elements. But then I'm a cynical adult (technically, though I still don't quite feel like one) and I'm probably over-thinking it. In any case I have at least three open Elements to fill, and even if they end up not being a part of the project in the end, there's still plenty of room for additional characters. If I do end up filling a couple of the Elements myself, it seems most likely based on the personalities of the characters in question that they will represent Kindness and Loyalty.
So this is me opening auditions, I guess. If anyone is interested or even reading in the first place. I'll need a note with at least the character's names, colours, talents, cutie marks, type/species, personalities and preferred Elements if you'd like them to represent one. The more detail you include, the better I will be able to judge how they might react to certain events. I can't guarantee that I will always get that right, but I will do my best and I have a lot of writing experience which should help. And of course full credit will be given. - But please only audition with characters that you own yourself. I can't promise to use every character I'm sent because there are only so many Elements and so much room in the story, which is why I'm calling them auditions rather than signups. Neither can I guarantee that they will represent the Element that you request, simply because some will probably be more popular than others. It really depends on how much of a response I get.
